COLUMBIA —MU's Greek Life is looking at changes after the university released its new Show Me Renewal Plan for the fall.

Fraternities and sororities typically have a dedicated week for potential new members to meet with new houses to find a good fit.

This year, recruitment will be a combination of in-person and virtual events.

"The plan right now for IFC (Interfraternity Council) is to kind of align multiple expo days with multiple days of move in," said Conner Sibley Phi Delta Theta Chapter President.

Sororities would normally have multiple rounds where women can meet with each other at the houses to learn about different values and get to know each other.

Sorority women work for a week before recruitment to prepare for the new members.

"We would have 10 hour work days with 100 girls in our small kitchen practicing" Jaynie Vanatta, public relations chair for Phi Mu Sorority, said.

Now, having 100 girls in a small room goes against current health guidelines.

The National Pan-Hellenic Council, which is the governing body for MU's historically Black greek organizations, does recruitment differently, but was not able to speak on that due to national rules.

All the Greek Counsels at MU value community service.

"We are going to have to narrow in on how we can do things safely," said Jayme Henderson, Alpha Kappa Alpha Chapter President.

Phi Mu does philanthropy for the Childrens Miracle Network Hospital. This means working directly with children who are immunocompromised, so members  are looking for a way to be able to help without putting anyone at risk.

In 2019, of the 22,616 students at Mizzou, about 28% of the undergraduate student body was part of a greek organization.

CORRECTION: This story has been updated to include the correct title of the National Pan-Hellenic Council.
