Bowling Green High School student dies in crash
BOWLING GREEN — A student at Bowling Green High School died Friday after a car crash according to the Bowling Green R-1 School District.
According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, senior Kaleo Dade was driving on Route E when he hit a deer and slid off the roadway. Dade died on the scene. Senior Kyle Horner, was a passenger in the car. He was airlifted from the scene and is in critical condition.
More than a hundred people showed up for a balloon release at Bowling Green High School football field Saturday evening. At the event, Dade's football teammates carried his jersey across the field to remember him. They also released balloons into the air with messages to Dade.
In a Facebook post, the district's superintendent Matt Frederickson said the school has made plans to provide support for the Bowling Green community.
"I know our community is hurting and overwhelmed by this horrific news," Frederickson said in the Facebook post. "Our main focus at this point is about support as we take care of the families, our students, staff and all who are impacted by this loss."
The school will have additional counselors on Monday to help students cope.
